Bio
Ethan Veneklasen is the Senior Advisor for Digital Identity at the Digital Impact Alliance and has over 25 years of experience in communications, advocacy, and partnership development for the public and social sectors.
Before joining DIAL, Ethan led advocacy and communications at ID2020, developing, advocating, and convening around the principles and technical requirements that characterize “good” or “ethical” approaches to digital ID. During the COVID pandemic, he helped launch the Good Health Pass Collaborative, a project that brought together more than 125 companies and organizations to establish principles and standards to guide the development of digital health passes for international travel.
Working extensively with industry and nonprofit partners, Ethan helped establish the Open Wallet Foundation (a project of the Linux Foundation Europe), chaired the World Economic Forum’s Digital ID Initiative Impact Working Group, and is an Advisory Board Member for the California State University, Chico Cybersecurity for Executives program.
Before moving into the digital identity space, Ethan served as Executive Director-West Coast at the American India Foundation, Director of Development and Communications at Freedom from Hunger (now part of the Grameen Foundation), and led strategic and crisis communications for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
