Who We Are

A “think, do, replicate” tank

The Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL) is a “think, do, replicate” tank housed at the United Nations Foundation. Our vision is of a world where services can safely reach everyone, everywhere using the power of digital technology and data. Our mission is to overcome the systemic barriers preventing digital solutions from going to scale.

For decades, governments around the world have been delivering lifesaving financial, educational, agricultural, and health services to their citizens using digital technology and data, yet many of these efforts have failed to scale or achieve their intended impact. DIAL was designed to address this challenge. In 2015, four global donors— The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida)—came together to create DIAL, which was officially launched in 2016. Today, DIAL is more than 35 people strong, with a presence across four continents and an annual budget of more than $10 million.

DIAL is staffed by a global team and is guided by a board of leading emerging market entrepreneurs, technologists and development experts. With this leadership, DIAL is uniquely positioned to serve as a neutral broker, bringing together government, industry and other development stakeholders to promote new solutions to old problems.
